Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said here Thursday Beijing believes the Iran nuclear issue should be settled within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the most suitable way.

Talking to reporters, Liu added that China's stance on the issue has always been transparent to all.

Beijing believes the time is not ripe for a referral of Iran's nuclear dossier to the UN Security Council, he said, adding that it supports resumption of nuclear negotiations between Iran and Europe.

He expressed hope a solution would finally be found to the issue through negotiations.

China is one of 35 member states of the governing board of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) which is scheduled to meet today on the nuclear issue.

It supports Iran's stance on the issue and was one of three countries that abstained in the voting on the anti-Iran resolution passed by the IAEA in Vienna on September 24.
