Iran-Bulgaria-Meet
Majlis' National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi said here Sunday the report released Friday of International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei on Iran's nuclear program confirmed Tehran's full and transparent cooperation with the IAEA.
During a meeting with Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Feim Chaushev, Boroujerdi said there were remaining ambiguities on the Iran nuclear issue but that these would be removed through cooperation and negotiation.
"There is no better option for the two sides except dialogue, negotiation and mutual cooperation. All nuclear activities of Iran are within the purview of rules and regulations of the IAEA and the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Tehran contemplates no other move outside of these rules," he said.
Turning to the situation in Iraq, the Boroujerd MP said the continuing insecurity in that country was a cause of concern.
"Today, there are real threats to regional and international security from Al-Qaeda attacks."
Stressing Iran was implementing measures to strengthen peace and stability in Iraq such as enforcing tighter border control, he said "security in Iraq is important to the region and the world." Turning to the current situation in the Arab-speaking Middle East, he praised Syria's decision to cooperate fully with an independent United Nations probe into the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.
"In this highly volatile region, people should not complicate the situation any further by blowing minor issues out of proportion or using pretexts to create tension," the MP said.
Expressing satisfaction over the recent political developments in Afghanistan, he said the problem of narcotics production was not exclusive to the country but an international one.
He urged regional and international cooperation to deal more effectively with the problem which, he said, was eating out the human resources of countries.
He praised the trend of increasing relations between Iran and Bulgaria and said the two sides had a very positive and promising future in the politico-economic fields and in cooperation in the international arena.
The MP also stressed the importance of bolstering friendly parliamentary ties between the two sides.
The Bulgarian official, for his part, said Bulgaria's foreign policy attaches great importance to expansion of cooperation with Iran in all fields.
The Bulgarian deputy foreign minister went on to defend Iran's right to pursue nuclear activities, saying the right is guaranteed by international rules and regulations, and expressed confidence outstanding problems in its nuclear dossier would be settled exclusively through negotiations.
He said the international community should step in to try to resolve the problems in Syria in cooperation with regional states because the creation of new areas of tension would only harm international peace and security.
He praised Iran's measures to establish peace and tranquility in Iraq and Afghanistan, and voiced his country's readiness to cooperate with Iranian officials in the fight against terrorism and illicit drugs in the region and the world at large.
