Larijani denies suspension of UCF activities

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 18, IRNA
Iran-SNSC-Larijani
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani here Thursday vehemently denied any clandestine talks with British officials on renewing suspension of activities at Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facility (UCF).

Larijani, who talked to reporters after signing an agreement on security cooperation with Iraq, strongly rejected any Tehran-London talks on suspension of some part of activities at the facility.

The IAEA Board of Governors passed a resolution proposed by the EU's negotiating states -- France, Britain and Germany -- on September 24, urging Iran to fully suspend nuclear work at the UCF and construction of its heavy water power plant in Arak.

On October 30, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed that Iran will continue work at the UCF.

Reiterating that the West cannot deprive Iran of what its nation has achieved through efforts and perseverance, the president said his government would support continuation of nuclear activities at the UCF.

Larijani also denied rumors that Iran's Expediency Council would be in charge of the country's nuclear case in the future.

Referring to the IAEA inspectors' visit to some nuclear sites in Tehran, the SNSC chief said they found the United States' claims "false" and "sheer lie".

Asked to predict the next report of the IAEA head Mohamed ElBaradei, he said it is expected to be "reasonable and within legal framework".

Larijani, however, regretted that the UN nuclear watchdog's reports have been always influenced by political pressure.

In response to the question why Iran has not allowed the IAEA inspectors to visit the Lavizan site in northern Tehran, he said Tehran will not meet their demands unless they have solid evidences.

Shifting to nuclear talks, Larijani underlined that Europe stopped negotiations with Iran, adding Tehran, in a recent letter to the EU troika, voiced its readiness to resume the talks.
