CPM leader Sitaram Yechury Wednesday met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and is understood to have discussed the issue of India's stand on a possible vote on the Iran nuclear issue at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) meeting.
The two leaders are also learnt to have discussed the dates for the next meeting of the Left-UPA Coordination Committee.
CPM politburo member Yechury now leads the party in Parliament.
Several major economic and social issues, including WTO, FDI in different sectors, the question of resource mobilization and implementation of the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, which could be raised during the Winter Session, are understood to have come up for discussion.
The upcoming IAEA meeting and India's stand in regard to Iran also came up for discussion.
While the Left parties have strongly reacted to India's vote against Iran at the last IAEA meet, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had recently said efforts should be made to evolve a broad-based consensus to avoid a vote on Iran's nuclear issue at the upcoming IAEA meeting.
