Germany's designated foreign minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Wednesday said he remained committed to a negotiated settlement of Iran's nuclear issue while pledging to continue the Iran policy of his soon-to-be predecessor Joschka Fischer.
"I will engage myself like my predecessor and will join the attempt to find a solution through the way of negotiation," Steinmeier told the Berlin-based PHOENIX television station on the sidelines of his Social Democratic Party congress in the southwestern city of Karlsruhe.
Steinmeier who is still Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's chief-of-staff, stressed last week on Iran's right to have a civilian nuclear program.
