Larijani urges change in attitude rather than new proposals

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 12, IRNA
Iran-Russia-Larijani
Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani here Saturday urged a change in attitude rather than new proposals in talks to try to resolve the Iran nuclear issue.

Larijani made the remark while talking to reporters after his meeting with the visiting Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov.

"Iran's right to have access to nuclear technology is an inescapable right. The issue that has been raised disputing this right is creating problems and calls for a change in route and not a different plan," he said.

Asked about the possibility of conducting the process of uranium enrichment in Russia, he added, "The Iranian nation will never rely on other factors except its own potentials.

"Iranians who achieve things on their own capabilities will bring national pride but it does not mean they should be ignorant to related issues.

"If a proposal is presented which can facilitate the issue, it should be considered."
Shifting to new proposals offered by certain media, the SNSC secretary said, "I suggest to you that you do not seriously focus on proposals raised by media because they are sometimes presented with bias."
"What is important to Iran is that the nuclear technology of Iranians is safeguarded because such capacity and capability are regarded as part of national strength.

"We have welcomed negotiations with Europe. Just as we are in contact with China, Russia and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries, we are willing to have discussions with European states."
Larijani further stressed that there was a need "to find the right path and move forward."
Ivanov, for his part, said Russia is interested that the Iran nuclear issue be settled through discussions within the International Atomic Energy Agency.

He said no new proposal was discussed at the meeting, the sides having focused on Iran's constructive negotiations with the three European states (Germany, France and Britain).
