Iran's Ambassador to Japan Mohsen Talaie here Thursday called for Tokyo's support for Tehran's nuclear stance and its right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

"We expect Japan will support this principled stance that is based on the rational and acceptable fundamentals," Talaie told reporters.

He outlined Iran's peaceful nuclear activities and said, "Iran is a responsible country and is ready to hold talks with the three European states unconditionally.

"They (the Europeans) have set preconditions for talks -- an issue which is not acceptable.

"Iran calls for close cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"That's quite clear that Iran has no covert activities and its doors are open for the IAEA inspectors and the international community to investigate such an issue."
Pointing to Iran's cooperation with the IAEA, he said, "Iran cooperated with the agency even beyond framework of the Additional Protocol. The IAEA inspectors visited a military site last week." Talaie added that considering the present trend such as population growth, growing domestic demand for energy, and lowering crude production due to the US sanctions, Iran will practically have no oil to export by the year 2020.

"Regarding the said trend as well as energy security, Iran has to use peaceful civilian nuclear energy."
The ambassador further stressed, "According to a decree by the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, having nuclear weapons is forbidden."
