Ahmadinejad-Majlis-Remarks
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed the importance of having the spirit of coordination prevail before other considerations in his cabinet.
Addressing an open session of Majlis this morning after the debates on the qualifications of his four proposed ministers, he said that he had primarily focused on the need to achieve coordination in the cabinet when he picked his candidates for the posts.
Majlis in open session debated on President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's nominees to four ministries which were still without ministers as of this morning.
President Ahmadinejad, in a letter to Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel on November 2, proposed Sadeq Mahsouli as oil minister, Mahmoud Farshidi as minister of education, Parviz Kazemi as minister of welfare and social security and Mohammad Nazemi Ardakani as cooperatives minister.
However, the candidate for the oil ministry portfolio, Sadeq Mahsouli, announced his withdrawal in a letter to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before the voting this morning.
Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel read out the letter and Ahmadinejad's acceptance before members of parliament.
In his letter, Mahsouli thanked the president and the MPs and further wrote, "Due to the strategic position of oil minister, I prefer somebody else who can secure higher votes in Majlis to take the big job."
Responding to the letter, the president said, "I, despite my wish, accept your withdrawal."
Later in the day, Majlis voted to confirm the president's three other nominees.
