Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said here Thursday that his country calls for continued cooperation between Iran and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Speaking to reporters after his talks with IAEA Director-General Mohamed ElBaradei, he expressed concern about any action which might bring the current cooperation between Iran and IAEA under question.
"The stance taken by Russia is in conformity with the stance of IAEA Director-General Mohamed ElBaradei," he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad studied the issue during their recent meeting on the sidelines of the UN general assembly in New York, Lavrov said.
He said that Washington has no question about Moscow's cooperation in construction of nuclear power plant in Bushehr.
"Construction of Bushehr nuclear power plant is under supervision of IAEA and poses no threat to NPT," he pointed out.
"Russia supports the activities of IAEA in Iran which is the best possible method to advance NPT goals, he said.
Lavrov said that resumption of negotiations between Iran and the three European countries on nuclear cooperation will benefit the two sides.
Russia prefers to play parallel role in Iran-EU negotiations, satisfying the two parties, he said.
