EU draft resolution not acceptable to Iran: envoy
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Sept 24, IRNA
Iran on Friday strongly reacted to a draft resolution submitted to the UN nuclear watchdog by the EU's nuclear negotiators and stressed there is no way the Islamic Republic would ever accept it.
The EU resolution calls for Iran to be referred to the UN Security Council primarily on the West's unfounded fear it has a covert nuclear weapons program.
The deputy head of the Supreme National Security Council for International Affairs and senior member of the Iranian negotiating team, Javad Vaeidi, described the new EU resolution against Iran as "confrontational" and undiplomatic and assured Iran would certainly give its appropriate response.
"The text of the new resolution submitted by the Europeans to the IAEA Governing Board's secretariat shows minor changes compared to the second proposed text.
"Russia, China and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) are against this resolution and consider it very late," he added.
The Iranian envoy has already made it clear that the option being pursued by Europe and the United States on the Iran nuclear issue was not conducive to settling the crisis and would lead only to more crises.
"Iran will not accept any deadline or any trigger mechanism.
In any such case, it will give its appropriate response."
