Pakistan stresses immediate settlement of Iran nuclear standoff

Pakistan Foreign Minister Khursheed Mahmood Kasuri here Tuesday said Iran's nuclear issue should be settled through negotiation soon.

In a meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Kasuri added Pakistan has announced civilian nuclear technology is Iran's right distinguished by Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Tehran and Islamabad enjoy good bilateral and multilateral relations which should be further expanded in all fields particularly to economic areas, he said.

He added the two sides have common views on Afghanistan within the framework of bilateral cooperation, saying both Iran and Pakistan are interested in establishment of stability in Afghanistan.

Mottaki, for his part, said Iran calls for more consolidated ties with Pakistan and comprehensive cooperation among different cultural, economic and political sectors.

He stressed Iran's inalienable right in access and use of civilian nuclear energy.
