IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Sept 19, IRNA
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) here Monday held its last session to finalize its statement on its support for Iran before the official meeting of the UN nuclear watchdog kicks off.
Besides the 13 NAM states who are also members of the governing board of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Chinese
representative was also present in the meeting.
Talking to IRNA here, a NAM diplomat said the Non-Aligned Movement is against sending Iran's nuclear case to the UN Security Council, adding it will continue its efforts in this regard.
Recent IAEA reports show Iran has cooperated with the agency even beyond its regulations and had never diverted from peaceful nuclear activities, the diplomat said.
He added member states of the IAEA board of governors should encourage Iran rather than taking steps towards its punishment.
The NAM members stress Iran's legal right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
These countries assessed Iran's suspension of nuclear fuel cycle and enrichment as a voluntary measure to build confidence.
They have also expressed full support for efforts aimed to fight development of weapons of mass destruction.
They said that peaceful use of nuclear technology should be implemented without any discrimination and in a balanced manner.
