Supreme Leader: Presidential election disillusioned Great Satan

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said here Wednesday the ninth presidential elections dealt a "blow in the face of enemies" and "disillusioned the Great Satan" once again.

The Leader made the remark in a special ceremony held to confirm the presidency of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the sixth president of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to Article 110 of the Constitution, "Signing the decree formalizing the election of the President of the Republic by the people" is among the duties and powers of the Leadership of the Islamic Revolution.

During the ceremony held at Imam Khomeini Hosseinieh, in downtown Tehran, former president Mohammad Khatami read the Leader's decree on confirmation of Ahmadinejad's presidency.

In the decree, the Leader said, "Of course the vote of the nation and my confirmation is valid as long as he (Ahmadinejad) moves in line with his obligations and treads the right path he has followed so far -- the path of Islam and the ideals of the Islamic system and defending the rights of the nation and resistance against oppressors."
The Supreme Leader urged the new president to rely on God, the Almighty, make the most of the opportunities, have sincerity in his actions, and does his best to make use of the huge human resources of the country to attain the exalted objectives he has announced.

"The ninth (presidential) election served as a blow by the Iranian nation on the face of enemies who consider democracy originated from Islamic faith as something disturbing the charm of their anti-Islamic propaganda...

"Islamic Iran, once again showed its resolve, joy and livelihood as well as its meaningful and blessed presence in the scene to the arrogant powers, making the Great Satan disillusioned and
Ahmadinejad managed to win over 17 million votes as Iran's sixth president during the 9th presidential runoff elections which was held on June 24.

Ahmadinejad's predecessors were Abulhassan Banisadr, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Seyyed Mohammad Khatami.
