UCF will resume work unless EU3 offers plan Aug 1, warns Asefi

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi here Sunday warned the Europeans that nuclear activities at Isfahan's Uranium Conversion Facility (UCF) will restart if the European troika do not present their proposal by Monday.

"Iran's deadline to Europe expires tomorrow (Monday)," Asefi told domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press conference.

He added, "Europeans' procrastination will not be acceptable to us. We have prepared a letter and will submit it to the International Atomic Energy Agency tomorrow to inform it of the resumption of work in Isfahan under the IAEA supervision.

"We will start work in Isfahan and will not wait any longer. The Islamic Republic made every effort to reach an agreement with the Europeans, but they have apparently faced some limitations and cannot fulfill their promises."
Asefi, however, said, "We are ready to continue talks with the Europeans, and extend enrichment suspension, and keep Isfahan's Natanz inactive."
Asked about reaction to Iran's referral to the United Nations Security Council following resumption of activities at the UCF, the spokesman dismissed it as illegal while saying the Europeans will suffer more loss if the dossier is referred to the UNSC.

The EU big three, Britain, Germany, and France, are making their last-ditch attempt to convince Iran to freeze its uranium enrichment for ever while Tehran argues that it is the sovereign right of all signatories of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.
