Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi here Friday rejected recent White House statement on President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's involvement in the 1979 takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran and termed it as "unfounded".
According to reports, White House spokesman Scott McClellan in a statement said Thursday Iran's president-elect was a leader of the student movement that organized the US Embassy siege in Tehran.
"As it has been previously announced and the US sources confirmed, the president-elect had played no role in the takeover of the den of espionage (the former US embassy)," Asefi said.
He added that the gigantic US security bodies are unable to investigate and reach conclusion on very simple and transparent issues.
"As a result of this inability, the United States has been entrapped in several quagmires. The US has become disgraceful in the eyes of the world public opinion following its repeated defeats.
Iraq is a manifest example of this case.
"Such remarks, being made on the threshold of power transfer in the Islamic Republic of Iran, stem from the US disillusionment with Iran's independent policies and the Iranian nation's inattention to the White House appeals to boycott the presidential election." 2327/1414
