Khatami receives head of SCIRI

Iran-Iraq-Meeting
Head of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) Abdel Aziz Hakim met with President Khatami here on Wednesday.
In the meeting, President Khatami referring to Iraqi nation's abilities and maturity to determine their own fate said, "After establishment of interim government in Iraq as the first step, I hope the next steps in security, development and progress could be taken faster."
Expressing Iran's readiness to assist Iraq's rebuilding, Khatami emphasized the necessity of determining priorities in bilateral cooperation and said any steps towards security and stability in Iraq is beneficial for Iran, too.
He stressed Iraq should consider cooperation with its neighbors as a priority in foreign policy and also regional countries should try to remove misunderstandings and strengthen ties.
Hakim, for his part, expressed happiness of being in Iran and meeting with Iranian officials and said the bilateral relations are in a good level and Iran has always been a friendly, brotherly and supporter country for Iraq.
