Tehran, May 15, IRNA
Iran-Belgium-Boroujerdi
MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi said here Sunday that Iran reserves its legitimate right to peaceful nuclear energy and will safeguard this right.

"We expect independent western countries namely Belgium not to be misled by West's propaganda following the 1,030-page report Iran submitted to the UN nuclear watchdog and the additional protocol to the NPT which Tehran signed last year, he noted.

"We also expect independent western countries to take into consideration Iran's legitimate right as stipulated in Article 4 of the NPT," he added in his meeting with Head of Foreign Relations Commission in Belgium's Chamber of Representatives Karel Pinxten.

He referred to the recent draft presented by 238 MPs on resumption of peaceful nuclear activities in the country, saying that the lawmakers have drawn up the draft with a foresight of the country's future needs to new sources of energy given the finite number of energy resources in Iran.

The West should adopt a realistic approach to the nuclear demand of the Iranian nation. The road to confidence-building is 'two-way', said Boroujerdi who heads the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.

Iran has always taken the lead in calling for nuclear disarmament around the globe and has rejected nuclear weapons as being against international treaties and religious teachings.

Elsewhere, he voiced Iran's readiness to expand political, economic and cultural cooperation with European countries including Belgium, saying that the Majlis supports such cooperation.

At the meeting, the Belgian official appreciated Iran's good cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and called for continuation of cooperation between Iran and the three European states -- Britain, Germany and France.

He reaffirmed Iran's undeniable right to peaceful use of nuclear energy, saying that Chamber of Representatives and the government of Belgium support Iran-EU3 (nuclear) talks.

Referring to the long history of cooperation as well as political and economic transactions between Iran and Belgium, Pinxten called for promotion of Tehran-Brussels relations in all areas.
