Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi on Thursday underlined that Iran's commitment to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is irrevocable based on its religious beliefs and the international conventions.

Addressing a gathering of foreign diplomats and international researchers in the Hague, the political capital of the Netherlands, he criticized some nuclear states for having failed to remain committed to the NPT.

He warned that the world is threatened by danger of nuclear weapons.

He insisted that Iran is after peaceful use of nuclear energy, saying, "Iran has signed the additional protocol to the NPT, actively cooperated with the UN nuclear watchdog and suspended uranium enrichment on a temporary base."
Referring to the talks between Iran and EU3 -- Germany, France and Britain -- Kharrazi called for a tangible progress in the talks to attain a consensus.

Elsewhere in his remarks, in response to question whether Iran recognizes Israel, Kharrazi reiterated Iran's basic policy of not recognizing Israel.

No Iranian citizen will allow the government to deprive the nation of the legal right to acquire nuclear knowledge, he said in response to a question on approval of the additional protocol by the Majlis.

He stressed that Iran is firmly committed to the NPT and its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), saying that Iran is for peaceful use of nuclear energy.
