There was no talks on permanent suspension of uranium enrichment in Iran's nuclear talks with Europe, said President Mohammad Khatami of Iran here on Tuesday stressing that the two sides made progress during the talks.

President Khatami, who attended a UNESCO conference on the Dialogue Among Civilizations earlier in the day, made the remarks in a press conference after his talks with his French counterpart Jacques Chirac.

The president stressed that Iran's nuclear technology was an indigenous capability made by the self-reliant Iranian experts.

Asked if there was any possibility of a progressing development leading to Iran-Israel relations in the future, President Khatami said that Tehran's opposition to the Zionist regime was a result of the former's moral perceptions as the country believed that "imposing pressures would bring no legitimacy for anyone."
"They (Israelis) should not consider themselves as the owners of the houses that they had once occupied because they had the power to do so," argued the president.

Stressing that Tehran made no interference in the Palestinian peace process, President Khatami stated that Iran would respect the will of the Palestinian nation and, at the same time, believed that their rights should be secured through a "fair" procedure.

Before leaving Europe for Tehran, President Khatami is expected to attend the funeral of the Pope John Paul II who died at the age of 84 on Saturday evening from kidney and heart failure. The funeral is scheduled for Friday.
