Tehran's interim Friday prayers leader Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said here Friday that the 20-year development plan, as highlighted by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, would be atop Iran's programs in the coming years.
Addressing the Friday prayers worshippers, the Expediency Council Chairman, Ayatollah Rafsanjani, said, "We are ready to take yet more giant strides and ensure stronger development though there are impediments on the way."
Rafsanjani said the 20-year development plan, if is given top priority in the national programs, would pave the road for progress.
The 20-year development plan is the axis of our movement and guidelines, he added.
He went on to say that all Iranian institutions and officials are in consensus over the 20-year plan.
He said Iran proceeds its way towards perfection and prosperity under conditions when enemies have pinned hopes on the country's plight.
Rafsanjani said the policy to draw long-term development plan dates back nine years ago when his government, the "government of construction", was in power.
He said those years the 25-year plan was called the Great Islamic Civilization."
He added that the officials then changed the name of the plan into "Hayat-e Tayyebeh" (Sacred Life) after meeting the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, and then it was stopped.
He declined however to cite the reason the plan was halted.
He said the 20-year development plan took two years to get prepared and the compilers used experience of other countries too in drawing the "highly significant" plan.
