IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Paris, March 23, IRNA
Iran-Nuclear-Saeedi
The Iran-EU nuclear talks will be held at the French Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, said Vice President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Saeedi here Tuesday.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with IRNA on the sidelines of the International Conference on Nuclear Power for the 21st Century, organised by IAEA, Saeedi said the reports by the trio political, nuclear and economic working committees would be raised at the meeting and the steering committee would sum up the reports and make necessary decisions.

Saeedi, who would be one of the members of Iran's delegate to the Iran-EU nuclear meeting on Wednesday, said the troika working committees would present their reports to the steering committee and it would decide on the quality and continuation of nuclear talks between Iran and Europe.

He said the working committees had reached a clear conclusion on Iran's nuclear case.

He added, "Of course, we have many differences with the European parties which would be raised in the working committees and tomorrow the steering committee would make necessary decisions in that connection.

Somewhere in the interview, Saeedi said Iran is committed to press ahead with its peaceful nuclear program.

Outlining Iran's 20-year program for generation of peaceful nuclear energy, Saeedi said based on talks Iran has had with the IAEA, the country would be in dire need of producing nuclear energy in the next 20 years.

Saeedi said the country would have to give a share to nuclear energy in the country's energy generation program.

He said due to the same reason, the country would have to generate 7,000 megawatts of nuclear electricity by the next 20 years.

He added that of course, Majlis has raised the figure to 20,000 megawatts of electricity, which indicates the Iranian nation is really for raising its energy generation share.

The official said besides the demand for increase in the energy production share of other countries, Tehran hopes to reserve a significant share in the energy generation for itself.

Calling as "very helpful" the organization of the energy conference in Paris, Saeedi said all the energy experts addressing the meeting stressed nuclear power stations, as a safe and durable source for generation of energy and as an essential element for countries' sustainable development, which should expand in the coming years.

He said most participants had in the meeting stressed that regarding limited fossil resources for energy generation one should move towards renewable energies, the most important and most economical one of which being the nuclear energy.

He added that the meeting took the nuclear energy as a necessity for all countries, mainly the developing states.

In the coming years, he said, the developing states, especially the countries in the Asian continent, would have the highest share in generation of the energy.

Also speaking to reporters, Saeedi said the security guarantees and economic incentives given in exchange for a halt in Iran's nuclear program are not acceptable.

Saeedi said Iran is firmly determined to generate peaceful nuclear energy.

He said Iran uses the energy merely for peaceful purposes, including generation of electricity.

He added that the actual guarantees and economic pledges, including lifting sanctions on sale of the engines of the Airbus civilian planes to Iran, are raised to deprive the country from access to the important nuclear technology.

Asked by a reporter on Iran's objectives to attain nuclear technology, Saeedi said to attain new sources for generation of energy within the framework of its development program, Iran would have no other option but using nuclear energy power.

Saeedi and Iran's AEOI envoy in Vienna Ali-Reza Esamaeili represented Iran to the international nuclear energy conference and the 21st century.

The meeting was held here from Monday to Tuesday, where representatives from 64 countries, including 34 ministers, were present at the French Economy and Finance and Industries Ministers.
