Iran not to develop nuclear arms, but to create nuclear technology
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Caracas, March 13, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Iran will not develop nuclear weapons, but will continue creating nuclear technology, despite the pressure of Europe and the United States, said Iranian President Mohammad Khatami on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters after his official visit to Caracas, Venezuela, he noted that 'Iran does not intend to work on developing an A-bomb, but right to work on creating peaceful nuclear technology under signed international treaties'.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez backed the stand of the Iranian colleague, stating that the pressure on the Islamic Republic is part of 'double moral' of powerful states.
During the visit, Chavez and Khatami signed 22 bilateral agreements, most of which deal with cooperation between the two countries in the energy sphere.
Venezuela and Iran occupy a place of prominence in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
The two presidents stated at the past talks that Venezuela and Iran would oppose a possible decision on boosting oil production within the grouping at the coming session of the OPEC Conference to be held in the Iranian city of Isfahan on March 16.
