Tehran, March 12, IRNA
Vice-Chairman of Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Affairs Mahmoud Mohammadi said on Saturday that Iran does not ignore US role in its talks with the European Union (EU).
He said that suspicion and misunderstanding have prevailed in Tehran-Washington relations in the past three decades and if Washington wanted to enter into nuclear talks or cooperation with Iran on a variety of regional and international issues, Iran would consider such a proposal.
"US needs Iran more than Iran needs to remove the suspicions about Iranian nuclear program," Mohammadi said.
"When globalization prevails in the world, all the nations need to cooperate with one another within the international organizations and regional alliances," he said.
"If the United States is willing to take part in the nuclear talks, it will be an opportunity to remove the US suspicion about Iranian nuclear program and the ground will be prepared for Iran to go ahead with civilian nuclear program. Otherwise, building trust with Washington will be a hard work compared with the European Union (EU,)" Mohammadi said.
"Of course, building confidence is mutual. In the past three decades, Washington always made efforts to find a communication channel with Iran and Iran should not think that any offer for direct negotiations may be ruled out," he said.
Washington said on Saturday that it will no longer object to Iranian bid to get membership of the World Trade Organization (WTO) unlike in the past and lifted sanctions on delivery of spare parts for civilian airplanes as first steps to persuade Iran not to produce nuclear arms.
Iran said that Iranian nuclear program is strictly aimed at generating electricity and that it never follows weapon program.
