Khatami: Israel owns largest nuclear arsenal
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Sarajevo, March 11, IRNA -- Before leaving Sarajevo for Caracas on Thursday evening, President Seyed Mohammad Khatami said that today the Middle East region`s greatest nuclear arsenal is owned by Israel. Speaking to Bosnia-Herzegovina`s national tv broadcast, he added that the US not only has no objection to Israel`s nuclear programs, but supports the expansionist policies and broad violation of human rights by the Zionist regime. He made the point as a criticism against the US dual policy, contrasting it with the pressure exerted by Washington on Iran for its peaceful nuclear activities, on wild guesses. "According to the International Atomic Energy Agency`s nuclear- Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the member countries are entitled to have access to peaceful nuclear technology and nothing can deprive Iran of such a legitimate right," he added. The chief executive underlined that Iran is prepared to take any measure towards confidence-building and to give guarantee to the world community regarding the peaceful nature of its nuclear programs. In response to a question about the US charges against Iran on terrorism and violence generation, he said, "We ourselves are victims of terrorism. "Today, the great pain of our world is resorting to violence, ither by terrorists or by occupier powers on pretext of campaign against terrorism." Turning to the fact that the United States itself has been the most violent regime in the world towards countries seeking independence, he stressed that Iran seeks independence, security and stability, not only for itself, but for the whole Middle East region. "Our approach is clearly evident due to our support of the recent elections in Iraq and Afghanistan," he concluded. During the interview, President Khatami expounded on Iran`s policies towards major regional and international issue. 2326/2329/1432
