Iran capable of repairing planes, helicopters

Tehran, March 9, IRNA -- Iran is now capable of repairing planes and helicopters, Director of the Aviation Industries Department of the Defense Ministry Hossein Alaie told IRNA here on Wednesday. Alaie said Iran`s aviation industry, as a centralized establishment, has necessary expertise to repair military and non-military planes. He said that before the Islamic Revolution, Iranian aviation technicians were capable of repairing three types of planes with related engines as well as one or two helicopters but now the wide-bodied passenger planes are completely and regularly overhauled. He added that furthermore, more than 20 types of engines of different kinds, more than 80 planes and eight helicopters are repaired. The official went on to say that joint production of the 52-seat passenger planes, different kinds of unmanned planes, pilot training jets, assault helicopters, jet boats, and related parts are on agenda. 1420/1412
