Iran, EU start latest round of Talks on nuclear dispute
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Geneva, March 8, IRNA -- Diplomats from Iran and the European Union started latest round of negotiations in Geneva on Tuesday to reach an understanding on Iranian program to use nuclear energy for generating electricity. The two parties embarked on intensive talks after the United States levelled accusations against Iranian program to produce fuel for its nuclear power plant. Iran believes that generating electricity from nuclear energy is the legitimate right of every signatory state to Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and that it has established full fuel cycle to support power plants while honoring the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The details of the current negotiations have been kept confidential amid the European states insistence on permanent halt to uranium enrichment. Iran sees the EU proposal uneconomical when it has the fuel cycle ready to operate and all the activities of Iranian nuclear sites are being monitored by the cameras of the UN agency. Iran believes that Washington`s hue and cry over national nuclear program is for political reasons and said that it would consider any offer from Washington to hold talks on the issue even though the two countries have no diplomatic relations. 1416/1412
