Iran to go on with diplomacy for right to use peaceful atom
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, March 5, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Iran will abandon its efforts for confidence building measures if the Iranian nuclear files go to the United Nations Security Council, Hassan Rowhani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said on Saturday. Addressing an international conference on nuclear technologies underway here, Rowhani expressed the hope for the positive outcome of Iran`s talks with the European Union on Iran`s nuclear program. "If the negotiations fail because of the United States pressure and the Iranian nuclear files are referred to the United Nations Security Council, the region will come up against serious problems, regional security will be jeopardized," he said. Rowhani said Iran more than once had stated its firm intention strictly to adhere to the international obligations for non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. "The Iranian people, guided by religious and moral principles, are not seeking nor have been seeking the possession of these weapons," Rowhani said. He said an appropriate religious decree had been issued by Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. "We will continue our active diplomatic efforts to uphold Iran`s lawful undeniable right to develop peaceful nuclear technologies," Rowhani said. /2322/1432
