Iran will make no deal on uranium enrichment: Rowhani
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, March 5, IRNA -- Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani said here Saturday that Iran will make no deal on uranium enrichment. "Iran does not accept full suspension of uranium enrichment and will surely continue it. The suspension will be temporary," Rowhani said in a press conference attended by domestic and foreign reporters. He reiterated Iran`s peaceful nuclear activities and said in his meetings with senior officials of the two European states (France and Germany) during his recent trip, he stressed that continuation of negotiations would depend on the progresses made in the bilateral talks. He expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of talks in the nuclear committee, saying the German and French officials also stressed speedy negotiations. The SNSC secretary pointed to a formula presented by Iran to senior officials of the two European states on getting access to real guarantees which not only would allow Iran to enjoy its rights but also remove concerns of the Europeans, saying "If Europe refuses to accept this formula, it will face problems. "In that case, we will present our formula to the world. So it will be revealed that we have had necessary cooperation and the European officials will be introduced as the violators of the Tehran and Paris agreements." Shifting to the US stance on Iran`s talks with the Europeans, Rowhani said, "We do not still believe in American`s goodwill. They are not honest in talks and use threats against Iran. They intend to send Iran`s nuclear case to the UN Security Council." Iran`s top nuclear negotiator pointed to a proposal offering economic incentives to Iran in exchange for its suspension of enrichment, saying "We will make no deal on enrichment. Economic incentives including purchasing Airbus and joining the World Trade Organization will not compensate for relinquishing enrichment." Asked about claims on nuclear activities under a tunnel near Isfahan facilities, he said, "There is no hidden activity in this tunnel. The IAEA inspectors protested only that we had informed them late of the matter." "He also pointed to rumors on production of weapon-grade plutonium in the Arak heavy water complex and added, "We are producing heavy water and equipment for the heavy water reactor in Arak. "Activities in the Arak heavy water complex are under the supervision of the IAEA. We never seek producing plutonium for nuclear weapons," he noted. 2327/1432
