Aqazadeh: Getting access to nuclear technology, unavoidable

Tehran, March 5, IRNA -- Head of Iran`s Atomic Energy Organization 
(IAEO) Gholamreza Aqazadeh said here Saturday that gaining access to 
the nuclear technology and developing its related knowledge are 
unavoidable for continuation of human life. 
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the International Conference
on Nuclear Energy and Sustainable Development, Aqazadeh added human`s 
prosperity in coming decades is entangled with manipulation and 
correct use of modern knowledge and available resources of the 
countries. 
"Self-depriving is not approved by any criterion," he said, 
stressing the usage of nuclear technology in the medical, agricultural
and industrial fields. 
He pointed to the exploitation of different national resources and
replacement of clean energy, development of nuclear energy, production
and supply of nuclear fuel and construction of heavy water reactors 
for production of electricity and medical isotopes as the main 
requirements of the country in order to establish sustainable 
development in 20 years` time. 
He referred to gaining independence in all aspects, particularly 
in the modern technology sector, as the main factor behind the 
establishment of sustained and long-term development. 
He said that development of Iran`s nuclear technology in the 
current decade has been the result of the utmost efforts made by 
Iranian intellectuals in this regard. 
The inaugural ceremony of the International Conference on Nuclear 
Technology and Sustainable Development was attended by Secretary of 
the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani, foreign 
ambassadors to Tehran and foreign nuclear experts. 
The conference which is held at the Expediency Council`s Strategic
Research Center will conclude its work on Sunday afternoon with the 
delivery of the closing speech by EC Chairman Akbar Hashemi 
Rafsanjani.
