IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, March 2, IRNA -- The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) underlines the right of the Islamic member states including Iran to make use of peaceful nuclear technology, said the organization`s Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu here on Wednesday. "We welcome the increasing cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," he told IRNA. The OIC encourages member states to sign up to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and do their best to make a region free from the weapons of mass destruction (WMD), he stressed. He reiterated that the OIC underlines some measures should be taken to provide security to those countries which do not possess WMD. The OIC welcomes Iran`s independent decision to hold talks with the European countries aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the nuclear case, Ihsanoglu added. He ruled out the use of force on Iran, saying, "All my colleagues and I follow up Iran-EU nuclear talks and provide any assistance to solve the issue." 1405/2322/1432
