IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA -- Secretary of Iran`s Supreme National Security Council(SNSC) Hassan Rowhani during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer in Berlin Friday called for accelerating of the three Iran-EU3 work groups` progress. The Iran-EU3 work groups include the political-security, the technological, and the nuclear groups in which the Iranian and European representatives try to tackle a solution to Iran`s nuclear stand off with the West. According to a report by SNSC secretary office, a copy of which was faxed to IRNA, Rowhani pointed out that Iran and Europe are completely agreed on Tehran`s not producing nuclear weapons. Rowhani added, also according to the decrees issued by Iran`s Supreme Leader and the country`s obligations according to the international protocols, we are opposed to manufacturing and use of all types of nuclear weapons and other types of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, too, reiterated during the meeting the need for "objective guarantees" on peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program. "Our goal is to remove international concerns about Iran`s nuclear program and the main issue is objective guarantees which ensure Iran`s nuclear program is mainly for peaceful purposes," Fischer said during a joint news conference with Rowhani at the foreign ministry. "To achieve such a thing, won`t be easy. It is a difficult challenge, but I think the goal is worth it. Hence we should attempt everything to reach such objective guarantees, in an effort to achieve such an agreement," added Fischer. The German minister made clear a final nuclear agreement would lead to "deepening ties in economic, technological and also political sphere". Germany, France and Britain are engaged in sensitive political and nuclear negotiations with Iran on a long-term political accord. Rowhani, accompanied by Iran`s nuclear negotiation team, comprised of Sirus Nasseri, Hossein Moussavian and Amir Zamaninia, was also due to meet later in the day with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. 2329/1391/1432
