Iran will consider any US proposal for nuclear talks
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Feb 22, IRNA -- Though Iran and the United States do not have diplomatic relations, Iran would consider any proposal from Washington to hold talks on Iranian nuclear program, deputy head of the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) Mahmoud Vaezi said. He told reporters that the dispute about Iranian nuclear program has nothing to do with normalization of relations and Iran would consider if the United States offered to hold talks on the dispute. "Iran has made it clear that normalization of relations with the United States depends on a tangible shift in the US attitude toward Iran, but, on the specific topic of the nuclear program, Iran is ready to enter into negotiations with the US to prove the civilian nature of the nuclear program," Vaezi said. He said that Iran has no objection to the proposal made by Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei on Iran-US negotiations about nuclear dispute. "We can count on President George W. Bush`s latest statement supporting Iranian nuclear talks with the European Union (EU)," he said. "Iran exercised dynamic diplomacy in the past four years. You have the experience of Iranian diplomacy over Afghanistan and Iraq. We considered any subject put forward by any country in light of our national interest in past four years and will do so in future," he said. "Iran is following active diplomacy over international issues in line with national interest through specialized committees of the United Nations where representatives of both Iran and the US are present. We can do the same on the nuclear dispute with Washington," Vaezi said. 1416/2322/1432
