ElBaradei urges US to join EU-Iran nuclear talks
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, Feb 19, IRNA -- The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohammad ElBaradei on Saturday urged the United States to join the ongoing political and nuclear talks between the European Union and Iran. Speaking with Der Spiegel news magazine, ElBaradei stressed Europe`s diplomatic initiative with Iran can only have a successful outcome, if America "brings its full weight to bear" on the sensitive diplomatic negotiations. He made clear that progress in the talks was not possible without Washington. The IAEA chief warned the US against any military strikes on Iran`s nuclear installations , saying it would lead to Iran "going underground" in producing nuclear arms. ElBaradei has repeatedly praised Iran`s "good cooperation" with the Vienna-based agency, saying his inspectors have found no evidence that Iran was making nuclear weapons. OT/1771
