Rice remarks show US anger, weakness: says Asefi
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Feb 18, IRNA -- Iran`s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Friday described recent anti-Iran remarks by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as the result of US anger and its weakness in imposing its policies against Iran. Asefi told IRNA that the "baseless and repetitive" remarks by US secretary of state indicate the disappointment of US officials in creating a gap between the Iranian nation and the government. "Iranians` recent nationwide rallies have made US officials angry more than ever," he stated. Asefi said Iran is strongly against terrorism, adding that the US must stop supporting Israel to show that its campaign against terrorism is real. "If the US is really not pursuing demagogy and believes in what it says about terrorism, it must stop supporting Israel which is the epitome of state terrorism," he said. The US, Asefi added, must avoid self-centerdness and respect the world public opinion. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman further stressed that repeating baseless remarks by US officials against Iran will undermine their credibility before the international community even more. 2328/2330/1432
