EXPLOSION IN IRAN DOES NOT HIT NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IN BUSHEHR

MOSCOW, February 16 (RIA Novosti) - The nuclear power plant in Bushehr in Iraq's south did not suffer from the explosion in this area, the Russian atomic energy agency told RIA Novosti [Russian specialists are involved in the construction of the plant]. Thus the fact of the explosion was indirectly confirmed.

"We have no information about the explosion in Iran hitting the Bushehr nuclear power plant constructed by the Russian project and by Russian specialists," spokesman for the atomic energy agency Nikolai Shingarev said.

Iranian media and officials give contradicting information on the powerful explosion which allegedly occurred in the outskirts of Dailam in the Bushehr province.

The construction of the nuclear power plant in Bushehr is one of the most perspective projects in 2005. Russian specialists are building the first 1,000-megawatt unit of the power plant. It will be launched in 2005 and put into commission in 2006.
