No German demand for UN referral if Iran resumes uranium enrichment: official
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, Feb 14, IRNA -- The German government has not demanded a UN referral, if Iran does resume its uranium enrichment, German foreign ministry spokeswoman Antje Leendertse told IRNA in Berlin on Monday. She was referring to a DPA report on Sunday which quoted German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer as saying that should current European diplomatic efforts fail to secure a suspension of Iran`s uranium enrichment activities, the case could be referred to the UN Security Council. "The (German) foreign minister stated Iran`s possible referral to the UN as a fact but it is not a demand by Germany," Leendertse stressed. She reaffirmed Berlin`s support for a diplomatic solution to the Iran nuclear row. "We believe that a diplomatic solution is of benefit to both sides, the Europeans as well as the Iranians," added the official, while pointing to "intensive talks". OT/1412
