Kharrazi: Discrimination in NPT revision not acceptable

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Feb 13, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said here
Sunday that developing states, including Iran, would not accept any
new discrimination in reviewing the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
(NPT).
The Information and Press Department at the Foreign Ministry
quoted Kharrazi as telling the chairman of a review conference on the
NPT Sergio de Queiroz Duarte that already, the countries possessing
and lacking nuclear technology were being discriminated against.
Kharrazi said that the time has come for the NPT revision, no new
discrimination is acceptable on part of the developing states.
He outlined Iran`s stances on nuclear issues and the country`s NPT
commitments, saying Iran is ready for close cooperation with the
review conference on the NPT in 2005 to ensure the meeting`s success.
He stressed strengthening the NPT, saying countries should not
move in line with undermining the treaty as certain western states
favor.
