Khatami: Iran Willing To Continue Nuclear Talks

12 February 2005 -- Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said today Tehran is willing to continue nuclear talks with the European Union, but only under certain conditions.

The Iranian news agency ISNA quoted Khatami as saying he hopes the Europeans are "wise enough" to move toward a position of mutual understanding on Iran's nuclear program.

The comment came after the spokesman of the Iranian negotiation team, Hussein Musavian, qualified the nuclear talks with the EU as "relatively positive."

Musavian said Tehran will only continue the talks -- and the suspension of uranium enrichment -- if it deems the first round
of dialogue successful.

The EU Three, Great Britain, France, and Germany, has used trade incentives in an attempt to dissuade Iran from pursuing a suspected nuclear-weapons program.
