Japanese FM says Iran committed to IAEA resolutions

Tokyo, Feb 9, IRNA -- Japanese Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura 
said on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is following the 
provisions of the resolutions of the International Atomic Energy 
Agency (IAEA). 
Machimura told a joint press conference with his Iranian 
counterpart Kamal Kharrazi that Japan is for success of Iran-Europe 
talks and supports the stances of Europe in this regard. 
He referred to his Wednesday`s talks with Kharrazi, saying that 
the two had agreed in the meeting on the improvement of security 
conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan. 
He said that he had also held frank talks with his Iranian 
counterpart on the Middle Peace. 
He added that furthermore, he had held talks with Kharrazi on 
reforms in the UN. 
He stressed that Tehran-Tokyo relations follow a good course. 
Referring to Azadegan oil contract, signed by Iran and Japan, 
Machimura said some measures have been taken towards growing 
investments in Iran and that Tokyo plans to take steps in that 
connection. 
On Iran-EU3 talks, Machimura said regarding peaceful nature of 
Tehran`s nuclear activities his Iranian counterpart is confident that
the talks would produce good results. 
Kharrazi said for his part that Tehran supported elections in 
Iraq and is pleased with its success. 
He hoped the elections would result in the establishment of a 
popular government in that country. 
He said Iran has been striving for better conditions in 
Afghanistan and would continue doing so in the case of Iraq. 
He added that he had told his Japanese counterpart that Iran`s 
nuclear program is peaceful and Iran has been cooperating with the 
IAEA and the results of the IAEA inspections show that Iran`s nuclear 
programs are peaceful and legal. 
Kharrazi said the IAEA inspections have shown that Iran has no 
plan to build nuclear bombs. 
He said Iran is now engaged in talks with Europe, hoping that 
they would guarantee Tehran`s application of nuclear technology 
for peaceful purposes.
