IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Feb 6, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, here Thursday said the Iranian nation has confronted world bullies, making the Islamic world quite sure that arrogance can be fought successfully. In a meeting with the Islamic Society of University Students, the Supreme Leader added the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic, due their support for the oppressed, have been targeted by international oppressors. "They (the oppressors) are trying to prevent the gifted Iranians from making progress by every means and through a real and non-military fight," he added. "Dynamism, freshness, ability, power of learning, innovation, and spiritual health are the main characteristics of the youth. When these adolescence features are intermingled with virtue and those acquired in universities, an elevated and effective phenomenon will emerge, which is a divine blessing and must be safeguarded," noted the Supreme Leader. Recalling the South African countries` unforgettable welcome to President Seyed Mohammad Khatami in his recent tour, Ayatollah Khamenei said such warm welcome to ranking Iranian officials from different nations stems from the Islamic Revolution ideals, and Iranian nation`s support for the oppressed and its resistance to arrogance. "Iranian people and officials will stiffen the historical resistance," stressed the Supreme Leader. Shifting to world nations` destiny during the old and modern colony eras, he said, "The oppressors are following the same goals they were seeking in old colony era. "They have resorted to ultramodern colonial policy by hiring expert, active, and influential figures of societies and using complicated ways. "The United States is one of the big heads of the `seven-headed dragon of arrogance.` The Zionist and non-Zionist companies and capitalists are the brains of this dragon, which have helped the current US president (George W Bush) take office, to meet their own interests." He said, "Bush (Jr) is the fifth US president, who mulls over uprooting the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic. If (Jimmy) Carter, (Ronald /edited/) Reagan, Bush (father), and (Bill) Clinton could make it, he (Bush Jr) would make it, too." The Supreme Leader termed progresses made by the Iranian nation in certain fields as "really astonishing" and added, "Iran has been thrusted into the limelight by such successes, drawing the world`s attention, but the revolution ideals will be fully attained just through unflinching efforts made by current and upcoming generations. "Young university students are the present and future managers of the country. To this end, the pious and honest youth shoulder heavy responsibilities." Ayatollah Khamenei warned against lack of information about political, economic, social affairs, and domestic and international developments, saying there is no room for such unawareness in universities. The Supreme Leader, who attached great importance to unity and cooperation between the student societies, said they can be strengthened by opting a right path. "Science and research, political insight, information about society, dynamism, reliance on God, and hope for future will help the students play very important roles in determining the present and future of the country." 2327/2325/1432
