Tehran dismisses Bush`s anti-Iran claims

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Feb 3, IRNA -- Tehran on Thursday dismissed the US President
George W. Bush`s anti-Iran claims and said they are repetition of
former "baseless" charges and allegations, lacking any basis and
foundation.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said, "Mr. Bush has
forgotten that the great Iranian nation had by its Islamic Revolution
26 years ago put an end to the US hegemonic influence and presence
in Iran, and he has turned a blind eye to realities in the Islamic
Republic and institutionalization of freedom and democracy in the
country, speaking of a number of things which have nothing to do with
the dynamic society of Iran today and more than everything bring
more disgrace for the US administration."
Asefi criticized the performance of the US government in Iraq,
saying that had they been timely, the elections in Iraq would have
been held under better security conditions and more gloriously.
He said a six-month change in the elections schedule made no
contribution to further security in Iraq and "we have since the
beginning been stressing timely elections; and now too we are happy
with the elections featured with high public turn-out and welcome
them."
In his State of the Union address to the Congress on Wednesday,
Bush called Iran the "world`s primary state sponsor of terror" and
reiterated his accusations that the country is striving to develop
nuclear weapons.
Bush told Iranians: "As you stand for your own liberty, America
stands with you."
"Today, Iran remains the world`s primary state sponsor of terror
- pursuing nuclear weapons while depriving its people of the freedom
they seek and deserve," said the US president.
He said Washington was working with Britain, France and Germany
to convince Tehran to give up its nuclear programs.
Bush made such allegations irrespective of the fact that Iran is
a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has following his
inspections to Iranian research centers over the past two years
proved the Islamic state`s peaceful nuclear activities.
The Zionist regime of Israel, backed by Bush in the Middle East,
has however stockpiled almost 400 nuclear warheads, refusing to abide
by the international conventions and signing the NPT.
