Aghazadeh: EU-Iran eager to speed up work

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Brussels, Feb 1, IRNA -- Gholamreza Aghazadeh, Vice-President
of Iran and Head of Iran`s Atomic Energy Organization, met the
European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and
Security, Javier Solana in Brussels Tuesday and discussed Iran`s
peaceful nuclear program and EU-Iran relations.
"We had a good meeting,`` Aghazadeh told reporters after the
60-minute talks, adding that he evaluated the latest developments in
EU-Iran negotiations with Solana.
"My impression is that both sides have a good grasp of the
issues. Both sides are eager to speed up the work. I think the
upcoming talks will be more concrete and deeper," he said
"We want to stress that negotiations should be more serious and
to be more accelerated. Talks are in a sensitive phase," he said.
Briefing reporters on the meeting, Solana`s spokesperson
Cristina Gallach underlined the EU`s willingness to continue
the process of dialogue with the Islamic Republic.
"I want to underline the willingness of the EU to maintain the
line of dialogue in good faith in order to reach conclusions."
"We are entering into good dynamics. This is a complex set of
issues. Therefore, we should not try to swallow more than can be
digested," said Gallach.
"We think we have a good rhythm. The machinery cannot move
faster," she added.
Gallach said the EU needs objective guarantees of the peaceful
nature of the Iranian nuclear program.
"That`s the main challenge. We are working on that and this is a
dialogue that continues," she said.
Gallach said Solana and Aghazadeh held a 30-minute one-to-one
talks before being joined by other officials.
She said the next round of EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement
(TCA) negotiations, which were resumed in January in Brussels, will be
held in Tehran in March.
The EU spokesperson said negotiations of the three working groups-
nuclear, security, economic - are more "subtle, a little bit more
complex."
Last month the three working groups held meetings in Geneva.
EU and Iran decided to form the three working groups in January to
boost closer economic, nuclear and security cooperation.
The EU-Iran steering committee will be formed in March to evaluate
the result of these negotiations, said Gallach.
