IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, Feb 1, IRNA -- Iran`s permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Pirouz Hosseini said on Monday evening that Iran is the only Mideast country that has fulfilled its commitments regarding non-proliferation of atomic, chemical and biochemical weapons. Addressing a meeting held on the occasion of Ten-Day Dawn ceremonies marking the 26th anniversary of victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, he stressed that the Islamic Republic has enjoyed very close cooperation with the IAEA. Although the Additional Protocol has not been ratified by the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis), it is currently being observed by the country, he added. Tehran has always underlined the importance of cooperation with the IAEA and other international agencies, Hosseini said. The Iranian officials have repeatedly announced that according to the Islamic teachings, stockpiling and use of nuclear weapons are prohibited, he said. Iran`s nuclear activities are entirely based on peaceful purposes and are according to the international criteria, the Iranian envoy reiterated. As to great nuclear installations established by Iranian scientists and experts, Hosseini said the Islamic Republic has achieved self-sufficiency in nuclear technology, thanks to great efforts made by its domestic experts. Referring to plots hatched by Washington, he said the US has made great attempts to deprive Iran of its legitimate right to make use of nuclear activities for peaceful purposes. 1422/1412
