Russia has chance to participate in building new N-plants in Iran

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Moscow, Feb 1, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Russia has "a big chance of
participating in implementing new projects for building nuclear power
stations in Iran," said Iranian Ambassador to Russia Gholam Reza
Shafei on Tuesday.
"Judging by Russia`s experience in building the Bushehr nuclear
power plant, I believe that all the prerequisites for this are
present," he added.
According to the ambassador, "Tehran plans to boost production of
electricity by another 6,000 megawatts."
"Nobody doubts the need for implementing projects of building new
nuclear power stations since Iran has not very much natural resources
such as minerals," the diplomat emphasized.
Russia and Iran are "continuing (their) cooperation in the
construction of the Bushehr power station and it will be put into
operation on schedule in 2006," the ambassador reported.
"It will be necessary to fulfill all stages of work before the
final commissioning of the project."
Iran is ready to sign a document for the return of spent nuclear
waste to Russia, assured Shafei.
According to the ambassador, "as a result of talks on this
question, the head of the Russian Federal Atomic Energy Agency,
Alexander Rumyantsev, will visit Iran late in February."
The ambassador noted that "Tehran is also ready to sign a
commercial document on this question."
