No cooperation with US against Iran: Pakistan
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Jan 24, IRNA -- Pakistan again categorically denied reports that it has cooperated with the United States against Iran`s nuclear program. "There has been no cooperation between Pakistan and the United States about Iran`s nuclear program. Pakistan has very good relations with Iran and the relations have been developing for decades," Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan told a weekly press briefing. The American reporter Seymour Hersh claimed last week that US commandos are operating inside Iran and that the US special forces were working with a group of Pakistani scientists who had contact with Iranian colleagues. "There had been no government to government contact between Pakistan and Iran on nuclear development," Khan added. "The story (in the New Yorker magazine) is false," the Pakistani spokesman maintained. Khan also rejected as "baseless" and "incorrect" Western media reports that Pakistan has accused Iran of having hands in the disturbances in the country`s southwestern Balochistan province. "We have not pointed finger at any third country," the spokesman said. "The ground reality is that Pakistan and Iran can talk to each other but not through the media," Khan insisted. He said Pakistan and Iran are capable of developing effective coordination. "There is no misumderstanding and misperception (between Pakistan and Iran) about the issue." Two identical reports in the Sunday Telegraph and Washington Times with Karach datelines and both written by the same person claimed that Pakistan had sent a communication which reported an alleged Iranian role in the "insurgency" in Pakistan`s largest province. Remarks attributed to an unnamed Pakistani official that Iran is behind the violence in Balochistan have no credibility, the spokesman stressed. TK/TSH/2321/1432
