US threats aim to influence Iran-EU nuclear talks: Younessi
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Jan 23, IRNA -- Information Minister Ali Younessi said here Sunday that recent threats of US officials were part of a psychological warfare waged on Iran. "The Americans make those remarks against Iran to influence ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and Europe," Younessi told reporters. "The President (Mohammad Khatami) and Foreign Minister (Kamal Kharrazi) have responded to such US statements. "It would be the most stupid thing if the US intended to materialize its threats against Iran," he added. Younessi stressed, "Iran is neither Afghanistan nor Iraq. Iran is the whole Islamic world and the entire history. It will neutralize any plot through its great national, military and international power and capabilities. The United States will make its biggest mistake if it intends to behave Iran through a threatening manner, the minister stressed. He pointed to "very low probability" of US commitment to its threats and said, "The Americans are economic-minded and evaluate their future so they would not do this." Shifting to alleged infiltration of US commandos into Iran, Younessi termed such claims are jokes. "These remarks are parts of the psychological warfare. This is what the Americans and Vice President Dick Cheney stated as a psychological war to influence our nuclear negotiations with the European countries," the minister reiterated. "All military, security, economic and political measures have been adopted since three years ago. Iran expects to see no threat but at the same time it has adopted all precautionary measures." 2327/1412
