Kharrazi: US threats only a psychological warfare

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Jan 20, IRNA -- Iran`s Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi termed
as mere psychological warfare some recent threats by American
officials to attack Iran.
Talking to IRNA correspondent in Uganda`s capital of Kampala
Wednesday, he pointed out that the US secretary of defense, too, has
rejected the remarks.
He said the enemies are trying to get Iran trapped in a
psychological game to influence it ignorant of the fact that Iran is
experienced enough to know the tricks of its enemies.
Kharrazi reiterated that Iran will go on with its own policies
and, though trying to avoid any kinds of conflict, will defend its
interests vigorously.
Stressing that Iran will respond to any US threats, he said Tehran
was never scared by such remarks.
The Iranian foreign minister also said that the Iranian nation
will never hesitate to defend its interests.
Commenting on President Mohammad Khatami`s seven-nation African
tour, he pointed to the interests the nations of these countries
showed in Iran and believed this was due to the revolutionary
position of Iran and the aid Tehran has rendered to African
countries to fight their own poverty and backwardness.
He further said that Iran shared views with many African states on
various international issues including fighting unilateralism and also
the urgency of supporting poor countries to compensate for the
backwardness brought to them by the colonialist countries.
Kharrazi described as expanding economic, technical and cultural
ties between Iran and African states and voiced Iran`s readiness to
export technological know-how to African countries.
