FM: US hostile policies leave no chances of holding talks
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Dec 15, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi here Wednesday said that so long as the US continues its hostile policies against Iran negotiations will be out of question. Addressing domestic and foreign reporters after the cabinet meeting, he added that Iran will hold talks with the US only when it changes its policies towards Iran and takes on an approach based on mutual respect. In response to a question whether EU has proposed the US participation in Iran-EU3 talks, he replied in negative. Meanwhile, Kharrazi dismissed the rumor about Iran`s agreement with US participation in Iran`s talks with the EU trio and said that he had never said such a thing. Concerning a question about violation of human rights, he said, "During the meetings, we usually bring up the cases of such violations committed by US, Israel and even the European countries. "Just as others make up reports on human rights violations in Iran, we can also prepare similar reports about such violations taking place in other countries," he added. Asked about the measure taken by the French government to block the Lebanese al-Menar TV broadcast, the minister replied that those claiming to defend the human rights and freedom should examine such issues closely. Once any country interferes in freedom of expression, it can no more have claims about it. About US opposition to Iran`s membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO), he said, "This marks US hostility towards us. "The US does not even let any negotiation about such membership start by using its veto right," he added. Kharrazi noted that this has been one of the subjects discussed with the EU, particularly France, Britain and Germany. "We have urged them to make attempts to lift such an obstacle," he added. 2326/1412
