Asefi: US cannot solve regional problems through military power

Tehran, Dec 12, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi here Sunday called the recent allegations of deployment of U.S. nuclear missiles in Turkey`s Incirlik Air Base as a mere media propaganda and underlined that the US problems will not be solved through such measures. Made the remarks during his weekly press briefing, he said wherever the Americans are present they incite public hatred against themselves . Deployment of nuclear arms cannot solve the problems of the region, he said adding that this will only lead to a disgrace for them, he said. On probable US attack on Iran, he said the American officials have ruled out such a possibility and that more like a psychological warfare. On expansion of economic cooperation between Iran and India, he said the two countries are now holding technical negotiations on expansion of economic cooperation. On Iran`s peaceful application of nuclear technology, he said "We solved the case through wisdom while there are some people who are trying to prepare a new scenario for Iran." On recent allegations on Iran`s involvement in recent attempts to assassinate interim Prime Minister of Iraq Iyad Allawi, he said the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken a transparent stands against terrorism and that it is among the victims of terrorism. "A number of our friends and colleagues have been assassinated in Iraq as well as in other parts of the world," he said adding that no one can accuse Iran of being involved in acts of terrorism. Iran prefers to have a stable country as its neighbor and seeks to restore stability and security to the war-shattered Iraq, he said. "As we did our utmost to help restore peace and stability to Afghanistan, we have the same stands on Iraq and call for a democratic public election to be held in the country," he said. He called Iran`s success in putting an end to Iran`s nuclear issue as its most significant achievement of the year. 1430/1412
