Russia hopes Iran would continue practical cooperation with IAEA

Moscow, Dec 1, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Russia hopes "Iran will continue to pursue its policy of constructive cooperation with the International Atomic Energyg Agency (IAEA)," the Russian Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said on Tuesday, a day after the IAEA Board of Governors passed a resolution on Iran`s nuclear programs as the international community`s nuclear watchdog. The adopted document is "an important step in the process of removing the concern of the international community regarding Iranian nuclear activities," the ministry pointed out. "The resolution welcomes Iran`s decision to suspend its activities related to uranium enrichment and chemical processing," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "A full and sustained fulfilment of this voluntary undertaking with due monitoring on the part of the IAEA is essential for the settlement of remaining issues regardingg Iran`s nuclear program," it said in the statement. The ministry also welcomed the "confirmation by the IAEA director-general of the fact that this decision of Iran has taken effect." The document, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted, points to the "importance of ensuring a full cooperation with the IAEA by Iran." Moscow expressed the hope that "Iran will provide to the IAEA possibilities to monitor the observance of the voluntary moratorium that will promote settlement of the Iranian issue within the IAEA framework." In its bilateral contacts both with Iran and other key partners Russia has "taken considerable diplomatic efforts in order to help achieve a positive and mutually acceptable result," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed. /2321/1432
